Christmas 2007
T’is the season when our thoughts turn to the joy of this special time that has great significance to many. We hope that your year has been filled with good health, happiness and fond memories. For many this has been a turbulent period. Some have been impacted more than others and to those, we extend compassion and love. Let us hope that the new year will bring new hope and opportunity. Perhaps we may soon see the glory of life through a rekindled spirit. At least that seems a plausible resolution for pursuit in the New Year.
I am exercising an “obvious lack of class” in failing to observe proper social guidelines by posting my Christmas and New Years greeting on the web. With that acknowledgment of my malfeasance, please forgive my transgression in etiquette. For those of you who remain “technologically challenged”, tradition will be observed.
Our year has been rather “mundane”. In January, Ken and I along with friends visited Ken’s sister, Barbara, in Joao Pessoa Brazil. We enjoyed 10 days of wonderful Brazilian hospitality courtesy of Barbara’s marvelous efforts as a guide. We concluded our South American visit with a cruise around Cape Horn. Much to Ken’s dismay and disappointment the seas were as calm as a lake. I was very thankful to be spared the “adventure” of his expectations.
Ken has completed radiation treatment for prostrate cancer and thankfully, his Doctor feels confident with the results. We feel lucky that the cancer was discovered early enough for treatment and we look forward to smooth sailing into the twilight of our setting sun.
A highlight of our year was the graduation of granddaughter Lauren from SMU in Dallas. We were disappointed that she decided to linger in the Dallas area to launch her career but she seems happy with her decision and thus, we are happy for her.
After one year at Kansas University, Grandson Sean decided to forego his urge to follow in the educational footsteps of his Grandpa Helmstetter and elected to pursue his higher education goals in warmer San Diego. The Kansas weather was a distinct negative for his California taste.
Terri, has moved into new offices as managing coordinator for Foothill Family Services. Gary and Marci are enduring the “empty nest” syndrome while Holly, their lab, maintains vigilance and oversight in their absence.
May your Christmas be blessed with the love that is the cornerstone for the season and your New Year filled with good health, happiness and the prosperity of all life’s blessings.
