FLORIDA IN REVIEW

We enjoyed our stay in Key West.  As always, our evening visit to Mallory Square provided a smile for the outrageous and entertainment in the skills that are part of the charm of Key West.

We were pleased to be joined by our friend Kitty from Palm Coast Florida and her friend, Ed, whom we met for the first time.  Bob and Marvis Gerston joined us on Tuesday to round off our week in Key West.   We met Bob and Marvis and Kitty and her late husband, another Bob, in Barcelona in 2000.  We have tried to manage an annual reunion of the group in the interim and though we are not always able to do an annual gig together, this was our fourth reunion as a group.  We lost Kitty’s Bob to cancer a few years back but his spirit is with us as we remember the fun times that we shared together.  We were pleased to meet and welcome Kitty’s friend, Ed,  who took our occasional lapses in memory in stride when we called him Bob.  He is a charmer, comfortable in who he is.   It was a great time and in spite of the aging process, we did our best to keep up with our younger friends.

Of course, Ken managed his usual fishing trip not once, but twice with both Ed and Bob having to do “fishing duty” with “the fisherman”.   It was a great week and we send our gratitude to our friends who joined us and help make the week very special.

Marvis and Bob, Ken and I joined Clare and Bill Knoetgen for lunch on Saturday at Bimini Boatyard in Ft Lauderdale.  Bob, Marvis, Ken and I met Clare and Bill on our 2008 South American cruise so it was another reunion from prior travels.  We had a most enjoyable lunch and visit before Bob and Marvis departed to visit relatives and we traveled on to Sarasota.  Ken and I are relaxing in Sarasota after stopping by for a quick visit with our friend, Helen, in Estero Florida.  Helen, and her late husband are friends from our Army days (almost 60 years). Normally, we try to spend some time with Helen while in Sarasota but she is recuperating from a hip replacement so our usual visit out and about will have to wait.  It was good to see her and we will stop by and visit with her as we leave the area for our return trip home.

We return home on Saturday in preparation for our next trek, which will include a visit to our roots with family and friends in Indiana, New York, Connecticut and adventures in the East.  Stay tuned for our next adventure which I will keep you apprised of through these posts.
